Explore Basantapur on foot: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Kumari Ghar and the lanes toward Maru and Ason.

About this spot
Start at Basantapur and walk past Kumari Ghar and the palace frontage, then continue into the Maru lanes. Allow 45–90 minutes for the outdoor route. Museum entry, food and shopping are separate, and heritage admission depends on nationality. Avoid blocking shrines, stalls or processions.
Kumari Ghar is the residence of Kathmandu’s living goddess; it is also the starting point of Nepal Tourism Board’s suggested old-city heritage walk.
