About this spot
Budhanilkantha is an active Hindu shrine centred on a reclining Vishnu statue in a pond. It is a short temple visit on Kathmandu’s northern edge, with buses and microbuses serving the surrounding town. Follow the attendants’ instructions on access and photography; festival days can be crowded.
The five-metre statue was carved from a single rock during the Licchavi period.
