Changu Narayan Temple is a UNESCO-listed cultural heritage site on a hill north of Bhaktapur, Nepal. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this living temple complex is celebrated for Licchhavi-era inscriptions, including an important fifth-century stone record, as well as detailed Newar wood, stone and metal craftsmanship. The compact temple courtyard and traditional village setting make Changu Narayan an excellent cultural day trip from Kathmandu or Bhaktapur. Take time to observe the sculptures and carved struts, walk through the old settlement and enjoy views across the valley. Morning is usually best for a quieter visit; wear respectful clothing and follow local rules around the inner shrine.
