About this spot

Access check, 14 September 2026: Kathmandu-Pokhara road disruption was reported; confirm the operating route before departure. [access]

A practical choice when a group has less leave than the high-pass treks require. The Ghorepani circuit links a sunrise viewpoint with a forest trail toward Ghandruk. [poon] Shorter does not mean effortless: the Ulleri climb and the combined sunrise/Tadapani day still require sustained walking.

TRIP AT A GLANCE
6 days, Kathmandu to Kathmandu.
Difficulty: Moderate; a useful first multi-day trek for fit walkers.
High point: Poon Hill about 3,210 m; overnight Ghorepani about 2,870 m.
Season: March-April and October-November; winter depends on snow and ice.
Keep 1 extra day for transport delays or a slower walking pace.

DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY
Suggested planning stages, not guaranteed departures. Walking hours and elevations are approximate; your pace, weather and road access may change the plan.

Day 1 - Kathmandu to Pokhara
Travel by daytime bus, allowing the whole day. Stay in Pokhara and confirm tomorrow's roadhead.

Day 2 - Pokhara to Hile/Tikhedhunga, walk to Ulleri
Use a local jeep to the currently accessible trailhead; walk roughly 2-4 hours, including steep stone steps. Sleep around 2,050 m. [poon-stages]

Day 3 - Ulleri to Ghorepani
Walk through the forest for about 4-5 hours. Sleep near 2,870 m and arrange an early breakfast plan for sunrise. [poon]

Day 4 - Poon Hill sunrise, trek to Tadapani
Allow 1-2 hours for the viewpoint round trip, then roughly 5-6 hours toward Tadapani after breakfast. Sleep around 2,630 m. [poon]

Day 5 - Tadapani to Ghandruk, return to Pokhara
Walk about 3-4 hours to Ghandruk, explore if time allows, then take a booked vehicle to Pokhara. [poon-stages]

Day 6 - Pokhara to Kathmandu
Return by daytime bus; allow an extra travel day if highway conditions demand it.

PLANNING FROM KATHMANDU
Good for friends testing their first lodge trek, provided everyone is comfortable with long stairs. Keep bags light, carry rain protection and agree on a walking pace before starting. Confirm whether the jeep goes to Hile, Tikhedhunga or farther uphill rather than assuming identical road access every season. Ask separately about any local viewpoint charge. If knees are struggling, add a Ghandruk night rather than rushing the descent.

ENTRY AND IDENTIFICATION
Carry Nepali citizenship/national ID and check the Nepali entry category locally. Do not assume foreign-package permit charges apply. [fees]

TRAIL NOTES
Sunrise views depend on cloud; pack a headlamp and warm layer, and avoid icy steps. [poon-stages] Do not ascend with altitude symptoms; descend if worsening and seek medical help. [altitude]
