About this spot

ACCESS DISRUPTED — checked 14 September 2026. The usual road approach through Dhunche/Syabrubesi was reported closed. This standard itinerary is for after access is confirmed restored. [access]

Langtang offers a valley trek reached from the Kathmandu side without routing through Pokhara. Kyanjin Gompa is the upper-valley base for short excursions. [langtang-region] The standard plan below splits the ascent with a Ghodatabela night. September flood reporting describes damaged approach roads and bridges, so this itinerary must wait for verified access. [rasuwa-flood]

TRIP AT A GLANCE
10 days, Kathmandu to Kathmandu.
Difficulty: Moderate to demanding; optional viewpoints are harder.
High point: Kyanjin Gompa about 3,870 m; optional lower Kyanjin Ri viewpoint about 4,300 m.
Season: March-May and October-November, after access is confirmed restored.
Keep at least 2 extra days after access reopens; this is not a current bus schedule.

DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY
Suggested planning stages, not guaranteed departures. Walking hours and elevations are approximate; your pace, weather and road access may change the plan.

Day 1 - Kathmandu to Syabrubesi — only after reopening
Use a confirmed daytime bus or jeep and allow the full day. Sleep in Syabrubesi, around 1,500 m. [langtang-stages]

Day 2 - Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel
Walk about 6-7 hours along the valley approach. Sleep around 2,480 m. Confirm restored bridges and the usable trail first. [langtang]

Day 3 - Lama Hotel to Ghodatabela
A shorter 3-4-hour stage to roughly 3,000 m. Confirm an operating lodge; do not assume all former stops have reopened. [langtang-stages]

Day 4 - Ghodatabela to Langtang village
Walk about 3-4 hours. Sleep near 3,430 m, keeping time for rest on arrival. [langtang]

Day 5 - Langtang village to Kyanjin Gompa
Continue about 3-4 hours to roughly 3,870 m. Keep the afternoon light. [langtang]

Day 6 - Acclimatization at Kyanjin
Stay another night. Explore nearby on foot if well; no high viewpoint is required today.

Day 7 - Kyanjin exploration day
If well and conditions permit, make a return walk toward the lower Kyanjin Ri viewpoint with local guidance. Otherwise enjoy the valley. Sleep at Kyanjin again. [langtang-stages]

Day 8 - Kyanjin to Lama Hotel
Retrace the valley, roughly 6-7 hours downhill. Use another overnight stop if the group is tired. [langtang]

Day 9 - Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi
Allow around 5-6 hours to descend; sleep in Syabrubesi and reconfirm the vehicle home. [langtang]

Day 10 - Syabrubesi to Kathmandu
Return on a confirmed operating bus/jeep route, with the whole day available.

PLANNING FROM KATHMANDU
Ask the park, a local lodge and transport operator about the same exact approach, not simply whether 'Langtang is open'. Reconfirm every planned lodge and bridge after reopening. Carry cash from Kathmandu. The longer Sundarijal/Helambu alternative requires a separately planned itinerary; it cannot replace Day 1 with the other days unchanged. Upper Kyanjin Ri and Tserko Ri are not included as automatic add-ons.

ENTRY AND IDENTIFICATION
Carry Nepali citizenship/national ID and check the Nepali entry category locally. Do not assume foreign-package permit charges apply. [fees]

TRAIL NOTES
Do not use this plan to improvise around damaged bridges. The normal approach must be verified first. Do not ascend with altitude symptoms; descend if worsening and seek medical help. [altitude]
