Phewa Lake (Fewa Tal) is the most popular and most visited lake in Nepal and the centerpiece of Pokhara, sitting at about 742 m and covering roughly 5.7 sq km in the south of the valley. On clear days the Annapurna range and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) peak mirror on its surface. The eastern shore is "Lakeside" (Baidam), Pokhara's main tourist hub, lined with cafes, restaurants, shops and a walkable lakefront promenade.
The signature thing to do is boating: hire a brightly painted wooden rowboat (or pedal/row yourself) out to the small island at the lake's center, home to the two-storied pagoda Tal Barahi Temple, an important religious monument in Pokhara reachable only by boat. Beyond boating, people relax on the promenade, watch paragliders descend, and enjoy the sunset over the water.
Walking the lakeside and visiting the lake is free; you only pay for activities. A shared/private boat rental typically runs around NPR 500-900 per hour plus a small life-jacket fee, making it a very low-cost outing. Mornings give the calmest water and best mountain reflections; late afternoon and sunset are the most popular, lively times.
