Swayambhu: Morning Views and a Circuit
Make a morning circuit of Swayambhu Stupa in Kathmandu using the western approach, with steps and city views.

About this spot
For a shorter Swayambhu visit, approach from the west and make a clockwise circuit around the stupa. This avoids the long eastern stairway, although the site still has steps. Allow about an hour and keep worshippers’ routes clear. Nepali visitors are listed as exempt from heritage admission; other nationalities should check the current ticket. Keep food packed away from monkeys.
The name Swayambhu means “self-existent one”.
