About this spot

Swayambhunath, often called the Monkey Temple, combines a Buddhist stupa, surrounding shrines and views over Kathmandu. Choose the steep eastern stairway or the road approach from the west. Allow one to two hours and check heritage admission for your nationality. Walk clockwise around the stupa, dress respectfully and secure food and loose belongings around monkeys.

The complex contains Hindu shrines as well as Buddhist monuments.
