Martin Chautari and Governance Lab’s three-day bilingual workshop examines how disasters are defined, governed and experienced through power, institutions, inequality and justice. Facilitated by disaster sociologist Dr Rachana Upadhyaya, each morning combines discussion, case analysis, participatory exercises, role-play and reflection. The sessions ask who decides what counts as a disaster, why some harms remain invisible, and who receives protection and compensation.
Schedule: Thursday–Saturday, 17–19 September 2026, 8:00–10:30 AM daily, with a 30-minute break. Venue: Martin Chautari, 27 Jeet Jung Marg, Thapathali, Kathmandu. Fee: NPR 3,000, or NPR 1,500 for students, including tea/coffee and light refreshments. Four sponsored seats are available free for selected students on a first-come, first-served basis. All fees collected go to Nepal’s Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund. Apply by 15 September; selection is based on interest, motivation and commitment, and selected applicants receive payment instructions by email. Sessions are in Nepali and English.
