Something Like a Film Festival (SLFF) is a non-competitive festival of young, independent and student cinema organised by Docskool (Documentary Open School), a Kathmandu collective of filmmakers, community media workers and social campaigners. The nomadic festival traces its roots to a 2009 week-long screening of young filmmakers' work at the Kathmandu Film Centre, was previously hosted in Dhangadhi and Biratnagar, and staged its third edition in Kathmandu in October 2023. The 2026 edition takes place June 26-29 at Airavat Picture House, Docskool's 40-seat micro cinema dedicated to non-mainstream cinema at 142 Panchayan Marg, Thapathali.
Expect day-long shows featuring around 30 short films (each under 30 minutes, screened in at least two slots) spanning fiction, documentary and video art from filmmakers across Nepal and Asia; the festival site says the 2026 edition will bring 30-50 shorts. Starting 2026 the festival confers three non-monetary recognitions: the Freedom Filmmaker Recognition, Audience Choice and Best Student Film.
